Biography
Kjellgren Alkire was born and baptized in Phoenix, AZ during the summer of 1976. He makes art about evangelical Christian subculture, rural life and belief.
Raised in Phoenix's suburban East Valley, he studied for the ministry in Portland, Oregon and Saint Paul, Minnesota. Ten years after leaving the desert, he returned to his hometown for graduate work at Arizona State University. Following completion of his graduate work, Kjel taught drawing at Phoenix College and professional practices in the arts at Arizona State University's Herberger Institute for Design and Art. He is now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art and Design at Northwestern College in Saint Paul, MN.
His studio and curatorial work has been a beneficiary of several awards, including grants from the Contemporary Forum of the Phoenix Art Museum and the Missouri Arts Council. Intentionally maintaining professional membership in both College Art Association and International Cowboy Ministers Network, he always enjoys chatting about art, risk and God.
